San Cristobal Tour Horseback Riding To San Juan Village

From hostel qhia which is a really nice backpackers youth hostel which we are staying at and really recommend to anyone traveling through Mexico Chiapas, San Cristobal...

For 100 Pesos you can ride horses through the jungle to a small village on the outskirts of San Cristobal. This village is very traditional and all the people wear very traditional cloths like skirts made of sheep skin and colorful shirts. One of the main reasons San Jaun village is so unique and interesting to go to is due to its old church which is very Pagan and shocking in a way since there are many dolls of saints and kings and queens, maria and Jesus. On the floor there are hundreds of candles which all of the people pray in front of and kill chickens and the whole church is very hot and smells of candle fumes. The people bring their new born babies to get dipped in water and then pray to some doll... its pretty weird and fascinating.

As well as the San Juan Chamula Church there is a really big market where little kids come and beg for a couple pesos all the time... =/ In the market all there are amazing hand made bags shirts and pants but the locals set high prices for tourists so I try to always bargain about 30% - 20% lower than the price they originally say... its a good way to practice numbers in spanish.
